Chances are these homes will never be seen on Rightmove. Ok they are all based in America and Rightmove is UK based, but even so. Could you really afford these Hollywood homes?

So we present 7 homes you can’t afford

1. Bill Gates home

Bill Gates Home

He has the finest home technology. Apparently has an automated human dwelling. I bet it has windows too.The hillside is in an earthquake zone, so the foundation sits on concrete piers and uses tiebacks and steel reinforcements several times stronger than the minimums set by the building code. Massive retaining walls, several feet thick in places, created a drainage problem, solved by collecting runoff in buried pipes that feed into the estuary.

2.Eddie Murphy’s House

The Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe-, Screen Actors Guild Award- and Golden Raspberry-winning actor and comedian lives here. Murphy’s all-brick, gated and walled 32-room property is in the East Hill section of Englewood and sits high on a 4-acre knoll. It is star-studded estate with a full-size racquetball court, an indoor pool with a glass roof, a two-lane bowling alley, professional recording music studio, elevator, and carriage house with gym.

3. Oprah Winfrey’s House

Oprah Winfrey paid $50 million in 2001 for the 23,000-square-foot Georgian-style home she calls the “Promised Land.” Last year the spread was appraised at just under $85 million. For such a public persona, Winfrey ferociously guards the privacy of her home, situated on 43 acres. At a Barack Obama fund raiser last year, guests were strictly prohibited from entering the house, and cameras were forbidden.

4. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s House

Good thing J.Lo and March Anthony have all this space what with their twins and all. Marc Anthony probably requested a house of this magnitude so he can hide from his wife’s diva demands. J.Lo lives in a seven bedroom and fourteen bathroom, 12,217 sq. ft home

5. John Travoltas House

John Travoltas House Ocala, Florida

John Travolta is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe Award-winning American actor, dancer, and singer, best known for his leading roles in films such as Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Pulp Fiction, John Travolta is aviation-mad and has lived with planes outside his door for a while now, previously living in a fly-in community near Daytona but had to move after other residents said his jet’s were too big for their facility. Now he lives in his current house in Ocala, Florida and he has a airstrip where most people have a driveway.

6. Halle Berry House

Hale Berry House in Malibu, CA

Halle Berry’s owns an $8 million estate in Malibu, CA. Nearly every room has a coastline view. Halle Berry is an American actress, former fashion model and beauty queen. Berry has received Emmy and Golden Globe awards for Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, and an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in Monster’s Ball, becoming the first and still only woman of African-American descent to have won the award for Best Actress.

7. Ryan Seacrest House

Ryan Seacrests - Los Angeles, CA

This 10,000 square foot crib once belonged to Kevin Costner. The house boasts five bedrooms, a media room, billiards room, tennis court, gym, pool, spa and staff quarters. Los Angeles, CA – Ryan Seacrest recently purchased Kevin Costner’s Los Angeles home for $11.5 million.

How to sell your house on Rightmove

Selling your house on the Rightmove web site is certainly a great way to be seen and find many more potential purchasers. But how do you get on there? Most good estate agents are experts in selling properties and will know that a web prescence is essential for capturing the market of people moving into the area. So the next question follows: how do you choose a reliable Estate agent in the UK market with a good Rightmove presence?

You won't see a RightMove estate agents in your road

As 25% of buyers found their property on the Rightmove web site, it is a priority to make sure your agent can advertise your home on Right move. You may find it is worth paying more to choose a proactive agent who will
ultimately achieve a better price for your property.

Before you commit yourself to one agent, take narrow down your estate agent list to approximately three finalists who you want to invite to do a valuation. Make sure you ask them how they will invest in marketing on behalf of the vendor and should, at the very least, take photos of your property. Also ask how long it takes to go live on Rightmove as it could take up to a week and yet shouldn’t take longer than a day or two after approval.

Rightmove enhanced advertising options

You may want to speak to your chosen agents about the Rightmove enhanced advertising options, Showcase and Premium Display to help sell your home even faster. You may need to negotiate with each agent to get the best commission rate though the lowest rate doesn’t always mean the best service.

Check out the estate agents profile describing their business. Does your estate agent belong to Ombudsman for Estate Agents or the National Association of Estate Agents. Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is also acceptable.

Don’t forget if the estate agents don’t impress you, it’s unlikely they’ll impress your Right move.co.uk visitors.

10 Downing Street isn’t for sale, but if it was…

With Right Move, Tepilo, Zoopla, Up my street or Find a property, we are a nosey bunch in the UK. If we aren’t buying property, we love to know what Mrs Jones paid for hers down the road. Or what the neighbours house looks like on an estate agents site. 10 Downing Street, colloquially known in the United Kingdom as “Number 10″, is the headquarters of Her Majesty’s Government and the official residence and office of the First Lord of the Treasury, an office now invariably held by the Prime Minister.

Just imagine if 10 Downing Street was for sale

So what if 10 Downing Street was for sale? well we know its not that simple if you want to move into that address and it certainly isn’t based on price alone. Though imagine for a moment if it was a simple as an asking price…

Zoopla recently valued the residential portion of 10 Downing Street, worked out under which PM value was lost and gained, calculated the stamp duty payable in April 2011 (at 5%, that’s £225K) if it was for sale on the open market, and identified and worked out the value of other 10 Downing Streets around the UK.

Here are their reported results for 10 Downing Street:

Gordon Brown currently worth a £4,574,831
Tony Blair when he left was worth £5,037,251
John Major £1,644,558
Margaret Thatcher £1,804,952

Zoopla also reports that property prices have risen since the last election in 2005 in each of the party leaders’ constituencies

by over 12% in David Cameron’s;
by just over 5% in Nick Clegg’s
by almost 19% in Gordon Brown’s

So there you have it, thanks to Zoopla we now know it’s not been the best property boom in recent times, which of course we knew already.

Property price gap grows

According to the Rightmove House Price Index this month, it found that UK average asking prices increased by 2.8% over the past month driven by strong price growth in the South.

lf you are looking to move to the north of the country from the South, the growing price gap will let you buy a lot more house for your money”.

The North/South price divide means that you can now buy two properties in the North for the price of one in South!

A real plus - draw a search

Rightmove’s House Price Index also found that asking prices in London reached a new record high.

The Rightmove House Index gives further details on the average asking price for a property in the UK increased by 2.8% over the past month to leave the average asking price for a UK property now at £239,672. This figure masks a two-tier market in which the price gap between the north of the country and the south has never been wider. Asking prices in the south (East Anglia, South East, South West and Greater London) increased by 4.7% over the past month but fell 0.7% in the north (East Midlands, West Midlands, Wales, North West, Yorks & Humber and North East), and average property prices in the south (£336,743) are now more than double those in the north (£164,347).

If you have ever walked around an area and thought how much you would love to live here, then these apps are priceless. The apps will help you find available properties in your area of interest with ease.

Today we just wanted to make sure you have the best apps on your mobile. All free and downloadable and now most come with some extra features for the latest iPhone 3GS and version 4.

Rightmove App

The rightmove app is going to give you the most property to view. It’s not overly exciting, but you will find it is very usable. The rightmove app enables you to save your favourite properties so they’re always easy to get to. It also uses Geo Location so the app will find other properties near your current location.

Zoopla App

The Zoopla app is a little smarter, and a great addition to the rightmove app. Several estate agents list property only on the Zoopla app, so to get an almost complete understanding of the housing market both apps will compliment each other. Zoopla app also provides a 15 year history of property prices in your hand.

The map led search along with results by geography, price, keywords makes it very easy to use.

Findaproperty App

Finally its worth having the Findaproperty app on your mobile, as it has a remarkable facility to search using the camera view to see properties for sale and rent in your current location. Using the Augmented Reality view you will be presented with properties within an ½ mile radius, and be able to see these plotted on a compass in the top right corner of the screen. Property labels will appear on the camera view screen that show the distance to the property, the price, the number of bedrooms and a thumbnail image.

Zoopla acquired Houseprices

Zoopla continues it’s growth by acquiring HOUSEPRICES.CO.UK

Zoopla.co.uk announced today (4th January 2011) that it has acquired Houseprices.co.uk, the UK’s #1 sold house prices website, for an undisclosed sum.

Zoopla shows it’s intent to become the UK’s largest property site as well as the fastest growing.

So will it intergrate with Zoopla or continue to remain seperate?
Zoopla inform us it will keep it’s separate brand but link directly to the Zoopla.co.uk website, allowing users to easily access local properties for sale, current property value estimates and other Zoopla features and tools.

Houseprices.co.uk was one of the first websites in the UK to offer Land Registry sold house price information free to consumers. It quickly became, and has since remained, the leading standalone website for property price paid data in the UK, attracting over 1 million visits per month.

Houseprices.co.uk was set up in 2005 and gives access to over 11 million house price paid records in England and Wales that have sold since the year 2000.

Zoopla acquired Houseprices today

The deal is a natural fit for Zoopla, which leads the market in online property pricing information and provides a further opportunity to build on its already impressive growth. It is also a win for estate agents and homebuilders who advertise their properties on Zoopla.co.uk as they will now benefit from further exposure and leads as a result of this deal.

Beeny’s Restoration Nightmare

Sarah Beeny, well-known for readjusting would-be developers in Channel 4′s Property Ladder, takes on her own renovation project and it’s a developer’s nightmare.

Now Sarah can listen to her own voice as she takes on an incredible property challenge during this 3 part mini-series at Rise Hall near Hull.

According to reviews, the opening clips are of the rather grand hall in question, but it’s all a bit Downton Abbey meets Emmerdale as we kick proceedings off with some shots of rolling hills, great expanses of water and a regal stately home. Beeny is then found sat in front of a roaring fire talking about the massive task ahead of her.

The project comes complete with just about every developer’s nightmare; the ceilings are leaking, fungus is growing on the walls and there appear to be several types of plant sprouting out of the bathroom fixtures. It becomes quickly apparent that the main concern for the couple is going to be money, and it is certainly invigorating to see Beeny struggle to cope with an escalating budget whilst having to try and practice what she has preached to the nation for so long. But as the narrator, actor Stephen Tomkinson, explains, failure for Sarah is not an option.

The 97-room wreck of a Georgian house set in 30 acres of Capability Brown parkland that Sarah Beeny and her husband plan to turn into a wedding venue. But Rise Hall is a “money pit” says Beeny, as she sets about transforming a 1970s gym built when Rise was a school, into a banqueting hall. In the midst of a recession when people are losing their homes, it’s hard to care about the success of what is really a business venture.

Really looking forward to this one
Some how i can only imagine it will work out well, unless would they really show it on Channel 4?

Are there good reasons for buying a new home as opposed to purchasing an older building or pre-owned house.

New houses or off the plan houses can prove to be a great way to get a home that fits your needs, but it can also prove a challenge due to the huge amount of laws and regulations in the UK.

Today we look at some areas to be aware of when buying new.

Buying a new Home - then beware!

Warranties.
In a new home the warranties don’t usually cover wear and tear and improper use of home components. This can sometime get to be a sticky topic if your carpet starts pulling up at the seams

Hidden Expenses
You may not always get what you thought was included in the price. Often the wording can be very clever to get your commitment. But what is included in the kitchen appliances? If the housing market is starting to recuperate the incentives for out of pocket expenses may not be as favorable as the time when buyers are in short supply. Often times major appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers and washer/dryers still have to be purchased by the home buyer. Are curtains, major appliances, lawn irrigation system, and ceiling fans included?

Vision
If you decide to plan the dream house, it may be hard to make decisions unless you really know what you want. This often comes from experiencing living in a few houses before hand. How could you really know what you consider to be the perfect home unless you have experienced a few layout variations.

The Global Property Guide

Today we look at the Global Property Guide website.
A web site for individuals who want to invest in property abroad, but need an independent guide before making a commitment.

We took time out to review this unique site. The site is set up for investors who may already know what countries they are interested in and what type of house they want to buy. The site guide provides finer details on the unknown, such as the rent you might earn in another country and what you’ll be taxed or what the landlord and tenant law is in the country.

Site Usability
The site is a “magazine style layout” and was particularly easy to use as a world map on the top left hand corner provided the top navigation into the various “Continent sections”. This made navigation considerably fast and intuitive.
Potentially the site could be confusing because it is huge and could of hit a disaster with so many documents in so many countries, yet the map navigation works so well, within two clicks I was in the correct section of the country of interest.

The Global Property Guide Site Reviewed

Site Features
Each section provided regional statistics, an overview, price history, rental yields, taxes and costs, tax on rent examples, buying guide, landlord and tenant guide, country statistics and a lot more detail. There is a regular monthly newsletter to subscribe to and of most value was the Country Investment Ratings section (Peru, Lima is the best place for long term return on investment at the moment). Registration took no time at all and enabled the Newsletter subscription process at the same time.

Matthew Montagu-Pollock, the Global Property Guide publisher told us, “Our site is quite different from most property portals. First, we genuinely provide objective analysis, completely uninfluenced by advertising. Second, we are investment-oriented, rather than second-home focused. We figure out which country and which city, at any time, offers the best rental returns and the best chance of capital gains, taking into account taxation, landlord and tenant law, and all other considerations. What’s more we present this to the reader entirely free, and with no need to sign up. It’s the most information-rich site in overseas property”.

Conclusion
If you really want an information rich guide for investing abroad, but want it without the cost, then this is a super site, full of reports and statistics, constantly updated, and one to bookmark.
